A Fraser Fyvie screamer and a late brace from Mitch Megginson sent Queens out of the Scottish Cup for the 21/22 season.
The visitors started the game well on top, forcing Queens ?keeper Sol Brynn into three magnificent saves that have became a regular thing for Brynn. He firstly denied Jamie Masson with a good reactive save, before acrobatically stopping a Fyvie shot from range. He then ensured Paul McKay didn?t put the ball into his own net challenging with a stretching save to his left.
Brynn makes another fine stop
He was eventually beaten on 38 minutes however, as Fyvie sent a dipping effort from 25 yards into the top corner.
Half-time came and went and Queens offered significantly more going forward in the second period. Ruari Paton saw a header cannon off the bar, then the post and seemingly cross the line, only for referee Scott Lambie to not award anything. It was tight and the linesman would have had his view obscured, however this decision turned the tide.
Patons header landed at the foot of the post
Cove went up the other end and on 78 minutes, Masson played in Megginson, who done what he does best and slot home past a helpless Brynn.
Megginson kills the game with the second
Two became three after 83 minutes when Rory McAllister seemed to have pulled down Wullie Gibson from a long goal kick, only for Lambie to wave play on allowing Megginson to score past Brynn from range.
It was no doubt an effort hat Brynn should have saved, but over the course of the past two months there?s no denying that the loanee has made stops he had no right to.
FT: Queens 0-3 Cove
A night to forget for every Doonhamer. These players have shown what they are capable of at times this season and tonight just wasn?t near that standard. With a heavily injured squad and little time to recover, it?s another tough game at the weekend away to Dunfermline.
