Manager Marvin Bartley made four changes to the side that drew with Clyde as he welcomed high flying Falkirk to Palmerston. Goalkeeper Kevin Dabrowski returned along with Paul McKay, Lee Connelly and Iain Wilson. Their return to the starting eleven meant, Gordon Botterill, Harry Cochrane, Connor Murray and Lewis Gibson all dropped to the bench.
The Bairns sit second in the league and travelled to Dumfries on a high following their Scottish Cup quarter final victory over Ayr, but Queens werent phased and took the game to them from the start, although it was the visitors who did have the first real attempt on goal when Kai Kennedy fired a free kick just wide of Dabrowskis right hand post.
Queens were in the visitors faces and as Connelly pounced on a poor clearance from Leon McCann his right foot shot from distance was just wide. Two minutes later Connelly was again involved, this time linking up well with Euan East to work their way up the field and as the ball came out wide to Ruari Paton, the Irishmans cross was headed out by Kieran McKechnie.
At the other end as a corner came in Dabrowksi saved from Stephen McGinn. But it was Queens on the front foot and as McKechnie won a free kick 25 yards out, Paton got his deliver on target, but it was down the middle and an easy save for Brian Kinnear.
The home side continued the pressure and Connelly had another attempt from distance, this time a left footed effort that wasnt far away. Then with just over half an hour played, Paton did well to hold it up for McKechnie who arrived in support to win a corner. As the deliver came in from Connelly it was headed back across by East for Paton who headed over.
Ten minutes before the interval McKechnie in the middle hit a right foot shot from 20 yards that the keeper got down to save, before Queens opened the scoring. Paton and Josh Todd played some great football to set up McKechnie inside the box, he fired a shot off the inside of the post but as it came back out it took a deflection off Coll Donaldson into the net.
HALF TIME: Queens 1 Falkirk 0
Falkirk boss, John McGlynn made a trio of substitutions at half time as they tried to get a grip on the game, but the first chance of the second half came from the hosts. Paton made a break and as he slipped to McKechnie, Kinnear got down low to save.
As expected, the Bairns started to put Queens under a bit of pressure, but Gary Oliver was offside at the near post as a corner came in and Dabrowksi made a good save to stop Callumn Morrisons powerful strike.
Falkirk couldnt break Queens down and the home side continued to look for a second. Sub, Harry Cochrane tired to hook the ball over the defence for McKechnie but his initial ball was returned and his second attempted was headed clear by Donaldson.
As the minutes ticked down, Cammy Logan played a good ball to McKechnie who cut inside before finding Stephen Hendrie on the other side of the park, his first-time shot was wide. And the Falkirk wall did its job to block Patons free kick.
The visitors tried everything they could to get a point, but Finn Yeats was booked in added on time as he tried for a penalty.
A terrific all-round performance from Queens played at a high tempo saw them claim an important win with seven games remaining.
