Cowdenbeath Preview with Jim McIntyre

Jim McIntyre guarantees there won’t be a 12 goal swing on Saturday – but can’t guarantee Queens’ play-off opponent.

The Doonhamers boss knows that, although it won’t be easy, his side needs to get the job done against Cowdenbeath in the final game of the regular Championship season.

However, part of the excitement for Queens this weekend comes from finding out who they will face in the play-offs which start on Tuesday.

McIntyre said: “One thing I can promise is that there won’t be a 12 goal swing between our game and the Dumbarton game this Saturday.

“I’ll be checking the scores as soon as I can after our game this weekend but we know we’ll have a tough time against Cowdenbeath first.

“This is the biggest game of the season for them and they’ll be battling really hard to win this game and stay in this league.

“They’ll be fired up, there should be a decent crowd there and they’ll be full of enthusiasm – and we’ll go out there and match that and look to take all three points.

“Cowdenbeath pose a threat to us and they like to score goals but we’ll know we’ve got the firepower to match them.

“Only after we’ve come off the pitch and gave it 100% will I start to look ahead to the play-offs.

“Right now, I think all of the top three will win their games but that’s easier said than done and in this league there are no results that can easily be predicted – we seen that last week with Dumbarton and Hamilton.

“I’ve said before, I don’t mind who we get because we fancy our chances against anyone, there is a belief in this side.”

McIntyre also pointed towards that same belief for the turnaround in the last couple of games after a slight dip in form before the Dumbarton game.

But the 41-year-old now strongly believes that his side can bounce back from anything which is thrown at them – a perfect set-up for the play-offs.

He said: “There were a couple games last month where we conceded a couple of goals but we recognised the mistakes that had been made and it was something we hadn’t seen since the start of the season.

“We’ve managed to reverse that and pick up some really good results – starting with the superb 3-0 win against Dumbarton.

“That was an important game for us and we knew that, going in to it, we needed to really bounce back and improve our performances which we did.

“Thankfully that continued against Livingston and it wasn’t a classic by any means but we picked up the three points and that was vital.

“The team has continued to bounce back after setbacks this year and I’ve got to praise the side for that.

“Hopefully there are no more setbacks left in the season going in to the play-offs, that would be ideal.”

Queens visit Central Park this Saturday for a 3pm kick-off against Cowdenbeath and as always, if you can’t make the game, there will be live updates on the website.
