Derek Lyle Testimonial

Fans favourite Derek Lyle is to be honoured with a testimonial.

The testimonial year for the 36 year old striker will kick off at Palmerston Park on Sunday 25th June 2017 with a game between Queen of the South and Rangers Legends.

Stars from Rangers past including Barry Ferguson, Gordon Durie, Peter Lovenkrands and Kevin Thomson along with Marvin Andrews and Billy Dodds who themselves have links to Queens have already confirmed they will play in the match which kicks off at 2pm.  They'll line up against Derek's team made up of team-mates from past and present including Steven Bowey, Brian Reid, Paul Burns, Jim Thomson and Stephen Dobbie to name a few. Further names for both sides will be released in due course.

With Rangers Legends travelling the UK to play special matches, their most recent, a trip to Fleetwood Town in honour of Fernando Rickson, the organising committee for Derek's testimonial are delighted to have secured the fixture and feel it's a great way to start the celebrations for the "Tan Man".

Lyle who was inducted into the QOS Hall of Fame in 2015 is the clubs most decorated player of all time, picking up two league titles and two Challenge Cup winners medals since he first joined the club on loan from Partick Thistle in 2001/02. While also having spells with Dundee, Morton, Hamilton Accies and Cowdenbeath, the Glaswegian has spent most of his career in Dumfries where he has notched 109 goals for the club and is now one of the clubs top goal-scorers.

Organiser, Graeme Dalgleish added "Del has been a great servant to the club over the years and is clearly loved by the fans. He is a model professional and someone that young players learn a lot from, he is a joker within the pack but is a joy to have around the place and truly deserves to be honoured with a testimonial. A self confessed supporter of Rangers, the game against Rangers Legends is a fitting way to kick start his year of events".

Tickets for the game will go on sale soon and will be priced £12 for adults and £6 for concessions. A hospitality package at £50 per head will also be available.

We are also offering anyone the chance to be a mascot for the day - you can be part of the unique event for £70. As well as being able to warm up and led the teams out onto the pitch you will get to wear and keep a specially commissioned strip.

In addition to the match, a golf day and dinners in both Dumfries and Glasgow are being planned.
