Update from the Board

Now the new season is underway we thought it would be a good time to update you on what has been happening round Palmerston.

The floodlight project is just about complete and should be finished in the next few weeks.

All four are now fully refurbished and meet the latest safety standards. We are looking at using LED lamps to keep the running costs down, however there is a greater initial outlay so investigations into costings are being carried out.  The refurbishment came at a cost but we were aided by a grant from the Football Partnership which helped with a percentage of it. The club are proud to have the largest free standing floodlights in Scotland which are iconic.

We are still looking at ways to restore Terregles St. and bring some of our history into play. More details will be released when we have them.

Mark Jardine and the People's Project have commissioned a Centenary Carving which will take pride of place outside the Queen of the South Arena. It will consist of three of our Legends, Allan Ball, Stephen Dobbie and Billy Houliston and will be unveiled on Saturday 19th October at 1pm before the Dundee United game. More information will be forthcoming but it will be a great addition to the Palmerston scene for fans to pay homage to their heroes.

Since our last update, we have welcomed another new business, James Hallam Insurance Brokers into the Arena. They are the biggest company to move in so far with around 50 employees and we hope they have a long and fruitful relationship with the club. It is another step to help making  Queens a 365 day a year business which will help us be able to compete in the competitive league that is the Championship .

Along with the running of the KGV we have also taken on the management of the Lochmaben Community Centre. These facilities will continue to increase our profile in the local community.

It was well documented the problems that we faced with the seagulls. It made both the local and national press and we even got a mention on Soccer Saturday by Jeff Stelling. However it wasn't a laughing matter and we are looking at various legal options to curb it next year. We were also inundated at the club with different and unique ways to combat the problem. Thanks also to the fans who also realised how bad the problem is and did their best to help by using the litter bins and not tempting them with food.

We were saddened in the Summer by the death of our Disabled SLO Eric Slaven, he was a lovely man who had a rich knowledge of the club and had followed us for many years. We will be speaking to the QOS DSA to fill the post which is part of the club licensing programme.

As you will have seen from the website, we recently held a Centenary Golf Day which was very successful and fans, sponsors and players thoroughly enjoyed their day.

We held a meeting this week with the SLO's and high on the agenda was ways that we can keep promoting the club through our social media sites, so hopefully you will see more information coming out and an improvement soon.

As our 100 year celebrations continue, we will have more news soon on a Limited Edition Centenary Print and the new Centenary Strip which we will be wearing against Ayr United this afternoon.

There are quite  a few new faces at Palmerston as Allan and Sandy carefully build their team for the 19/20 season. We welcome our new players and hope they have a happy and successful time at Queen of the South.

Thanks again to fans, sponsors, volunteers and coaches who are all vital to the football club. There is an enormous amount of work done to help keep the football club rolling along.

Up the South !
