Match Preview v Raith Rovers (11/9/21)

Following our SPFL Trust Trophy match last weekend, it is back to league business for us tomorrow as we head to Raith Rovers in the Championship.

The hosts edged the victories in last season’s curtailed campaign, winning the two games we played at Palmerston. In October they were 5-2 winners while in April, Gozie Ugwu scored the only goal of the game to earn the Kirkcaldy side the win. Our last visit to Starks Park was in December 2020 when in between the games in Dumfries, goals from Connor Shields and Tommy Goss gave us a 2-0 victory.

Boosted by a 2-0 win away at Ayr United on Tuesday evening, Raith sit 5th in the table on four points from their three games so far. They will be without Aidan Connolly who picked up a hamstring injury at Somerset Park and Blaise Riley Snow who was red carded in the win over Ayr.

We will have Aidan Fitzpatrick available for selection after receiving his international clearance.

Looking ahead to the game, manager, Allan Johnston said “Last week’s win over Broomhill was a confidence boost for the boys. These matches throw up different challenges, but the players stood up to that and produced a good team performance and we achieved our aim of getting through to the next round.

This weekend we return to the league, we all know that there are no easy games in the Championship and that we must be on top form every week to pick up the points we want. Every week is a test but apart from the first half against Hamilton, I think we have played well, but the players know they will have to step up a level again this weekend against a very good Raith side”.
