Match Preview v Arbroath (H)

It’s match day six for us in the Championship this weekend as we welcome Arbroath to Palmerston.

The visitors have made a great start to the season and sit third in the table on 10 points with three wins, a draw and a solitary defeat from their opening five matches. They go into the game on the back of a comfortable 4-0 home win over Hamilton last weekend. While we sit fifth in the table after our 1-0 victory away at Raith.

Two of the three games between the two sides last season ended in draws. Bobby Linn equalized early in the second half to cancel out James Maxwell’s opener as the game ended one apiece in our first meeting at Gayfield. While on their last visit to Palmerston in January the Red Lichties came back from two goals down to take a share of the points. A Connor Shields double had us ahead before two goals in the space of two minutes from Scott Stewart and Thomas O’Brien pulled Dick Campbell’s men level.

The only other meeting between us last season came in March when it was our turn to stage a comeback. We found ourselves two goals down as Bobby Linn and Michael McKenna scored but goals from Ayo Obileye (x2), Dapo Mebude and James Maxwell earned us a 4 – 2 win.

Ahead of the game tomorrow, Manager Allan Johnston said “We go into the game on the back of a fantastic win over Raith.

It was a terrific solid team performance at Kirkcaldy. I thought first half we looked dangerous going forward and created good chances. Lee fired us ahead with a piece of magic but for me it was the way the boys defended that really pleased me. The second half Raith put us under pressure but the boys dug in and limited them to very few clear-cut chances.

This week we face a team who are full of confidence after the start to the season they’ve made. Their result against Hamilton last week shows what they can do, they have a settled squad and are hard to play as they like to go forward and put teams under pressure.

For us we want to start picking up wins at home. The performances have been there we just need to turn them into victories”.
