Manager Allan Johnston has been sharing his thoughts following our win over Queens Park at Hampden in the Scottish Cup last night.

“It’s brilliant, I thought the attitude of the players was brilliant you could see they didn’t want to lose goals, they worked really hard and showed real commitment and desire. They worked hard for each other and wanted to get the clean sheet and score goals. We could have passed it better, at times it was a wee bit scrappy; but the conditions weren’t great, the park was icy and hard in places”.

“I thought we were excellent in the second half, some of the chances we created and the pace we showed was tremendous. There were a lot of good performances, Connor Shields again was excellent, Dan Pybus had energy, the way he closes people down and playing through passes, Joe McKee, Rhys McCabe, a lot of good performances and it’s always good as a defender to get a clean sheet. Wullie has been brilliant, if you see his training stats, every day he is up there one of the top players, how far he runs, the amount of sprints that he does he is probably fitter now than he was when I had him previously so it shows just how professional he is. It’s good that he is doing so well and it’s good for the younger players to have him in training and setting the standards every day”.

“It’s hard to describe what has changed in recent games to be honest. We know we have got good players sometimes they just have to click, at the moment they’ve got the momentum and confidence that you get from winning and we just have to try to build on it”.

“The cup is all about playing different teams, obviously it would be better to have the fans in there to see these games but it looks like it is going to be difficult so the main thing was getting into the next round”.

“Rhys Breen came in this week and that gives us competition at the back but we are definitely looking to bring more in, hopefully we can bring in another two or three that is what we are looking at. We have got a good base, but it is important to strengthen as we know how difficult the league is so we want to build on what we’ve got just now”.
