In their last competitive fixture, the Under 16’s faced Montrose for the second time in the space of two weeks. Having played them away in the league recently, this time it was a home game as they faced them in their final group game of the CAS Cup.
Coach Ross Newlands said “The game started evenly with neither side really having a foothold. However, Montrose took midway through the first half when their striker latching onto an error and slotting into an empty net. The boys struggled to find their way back into the game and made a lot of mistakes in and out of possession that led to Montrose finding the net twice more before half time.
The second half was much better from the young Queens team and Lucas Jones found the back of the net with a fine finish from inside the box to give them hope of a comeback. But that didn’t last long as the visitors quickly regained their advantage when the full-back scored from 20-yards.
Queens kept battling and peppered the Montrose goal, it paid off when William Salfenmoser finished neatly but they couldn’t find another break through and the visitors won by four goals to two.”
A hybrid squad of Under 16s and Under 18s faced London County in a friendly midweek but there are no league or cup fixtures scheduled for this weekend.
