Queens played their second pre-season friendly at Palmerston at lunchtime today and this time our friends at Dalbeattie Star were the visitors. It was a fairly strong Queens line up that began with only 3 trialists involved. They lined up:
1. Rohan Ferguson, 2 Trialist, 3 Trialist, 4 Ayo Obileye, 5 Gregor Buchanan, 6 Rhys McCabe, 7 Harry Robinson, 8 Dan Pybus, 9 Trialist, 10 Aidan Fitzpatrick, 11 Connor Shields.
The visitors included a swathe of former Queens players including the likes of Dan Orsi, Dean Brotherston and Steven Black as well as currently on loan reserve Connor Potts and may possibly have more official Queens appearances under their belts than the Queens team did!
Dalbeattie started well and were hard to break down whilst occasionally offering a threat going forward. It was almost half an hour in before the deadlock was finally broken. Rhys McCabe unlocked the defence with a peach of a crossfield pass which sent Harry Robinson clear down the right. His perfect cross eluded Aidan Fitzpatrick but was met by the diving header of Connor Shields at the back post for a really well worked goal.
On the hour mark Queens made it 2-0 when the Trialist no 9 worked himself space to fire low into the bottom right corner from just inside the box. With around 20 minutes to go, Queens changed all 10 outfield players, giving run outs to 3 more trialists, as well as Wullie Gibson, who played at right back, Tommy Goss and reserve squad members, Cameron Crooks, Diste Sylla, Liam Douglas, Kane Paton and Dom McMahon. There was no further scoring although Dalbeattie almost grabbed a late consolation.
