Due to injuries, manager Peter Murphy made two changes to the side that faced Inverness Caledonian Thistle midweek. With Harry Cochrane and Kyle Doherty out there were starts for Josh Walker and Lewis ODonnell.
Adam Brooks who scored two goals on Tuesday night, quickly added to his tally when he got Queens off to the best possible start with another goal after just three minutes. Brennan Dickenson played the ball across the box and as it was blocked, Brooks was on hand to score from close range.
Six minutes later, Reece Lyon wasnt far away from doubling the lead when he got on the end of Walkers free kick, but Owen Hayward saved his front post header.
As Dumbarton hit back, Ross Stewart made a stop from Finlay Gray. And as Kalvin Orsi got on the end of a Craig McGuffie pass, the keeper raced off his line to block but the offside flag was up anyway. At the other end, as Brooks crossed, Lyon hit a right foot shot over.
With 28 minutes gone, the visitors were back level when an in-swinging corner was headed past Stewart by former Queens defender, Mark Durnan.
Two minutes later, Stewart pulled off a great save to deny Gray and as the ball pinged around the box as Queens tried to clear, Osri was off target with his shot.
With the final chance of the first half, Walker crossed the ball in from the left and Dickenson got up well but couldnt connect to direct the ball towards goal.
HALF TIME: Queens 1 Dumbarton 1
Three minutes after the restart, Dickensons low shot was cleared off the line by James Hilton and as the ball came back to the frontman, he played it back in for Brooks who missed but the offside flag was up.
However, it didnt take long for them to regain the lead when Walker did well to win the ball inside the box and with Brooks and Dickenson up in support, he slipped the ball across goal, and it was Brooks who swept it into the net to score his and Queens second of the afternoon.
On the hour mark, the striker almost grabbed his hat-trick when he slid in but was inches away from steering home Lyons delivery.
Four minutes later, Carlo Pignatiello was booked for a push on Dickenson and from the resulting free kick with Dickenson and Walker both standing over the ball, 20-yards out, it was Dickenson who hit a sweet strike into the top corner.
Queens were now dominant and as Dickenson floated the ball to the back post, Matty Douglas header was blocked by the keeper.
Midway through the half, substitute Jordan Allan cut back from the by-line for Brooks, but he was well wide with his shot.
As the home side piled on the pressure, Oscar MacIntyre played a neat pass to Dickenson, as he played the ball across the box, Allan shot wide. With twelve minutes remaining, Allan used his pace to get forward, but his shot was blocked. Kristian Webster cleared Walkers rebound effort off the line.
Queens werent finished and Dickenson hit a left foot shot from 35-yards that just cleared the crossbar. Before Brooks showed some great skill to open up space, his cross found Allan, but he was offside.
As the minutes ticked down, MacIntyre made a charge from his own half and his cross-field pass to Allan was knocked back down to Fraser Bryden who was in on goal, but his final effort hit off the keeper.
And in added on time, Allan took the ball round Durnan, but the ball was out for a corner and as Allan played it back to MacIntyre he tried to chip the ball over Hayward, but the keeper got his hand on it to tip the ball over the bar.
