Match Preview v Alloa Athletic - 15th March

Mar 14 2025 11:42

After a long trip north, we are back home tomorrow as we take on Alloa Athletic.

There has been nothing between the sides so far this season with all three games ending in draws. We travelled to Alloa on the opening day of the league fixtures and came away with a point after a goal-less draw. The Wasps were in Dumfries in November and opened the scoring through Luke Rankin, but Josh Walker popped up with a wonderful equaliser as it ended one apiece. It was the same result when we last faced each other in January. Benji Luissint gave us an early lead but we were denied the win when Scott Taggert converted an injury time penalty.

The visitors do hold an advantage when it comes to overall points, they sit fourth in the table, five points ahead of us.

Ahead of the game tomorrow, Manager Peter Murphy said “Our results of late have been disappointing and have left us chasing the pack. Last week at Cove, I thought we were excellent for the first twenty minutes and made it hard for a very good football side to deal with. We got ourselves in front early on and should have added another couple but five minutes of madness allowed them back into it and a couple of uncharacteristic errors saw them take a grip of the game and we again had a mountain to climb.

It has opened up a gap between us and the top three in the table but in this league where anyone can take points off anyone we will keep fighting and see where it takes us.

Alloa, are a side who like ourselves are battling for one of those top four places. We know they are a well organised side who will make it difficult for us. But if we show character and stick together, we know we are capable of winning games.

We will have to go out there to make sure Alloa do not get away from us and try to bring a halt to the run of results we have had.”
