Having got back to within touching distance of the play-off places, it was off to relegation threatened Dumbarton for our next game in league one. There was one change to the side from last week, Harry Cochrane started with Lewis ODonnell dropping to the bench.
On a badly cut up surface it was going to be difficult to produce any kind of decent football and nothing of note happened in the opening ten minutes with neither side getting anywhere near goal. When they did eventually get close, it was Queens who had the first attempt when Kai Kennedy floated in a corner that Jack Hannah got on the end of but he headed wide.
It was still scrappy and with quarter of an hour gone, former Queens midfielder, Craig McGuffie played a pass over the top for Kalvin Orsi, he looked offside but the flag stayed down and it took a few attempts for Queens to clear. Minutes later, McGuffie sent in an in-swinging corner that Ross Stewart got a hand to. The ball fell to Cameron Clark but he fouled Reece Lyon as he tried to clear.
Midway through the half, Cochrane gave away a free-kick when he challenged Michael Ruth but Ryan Blairs strike flew the wrong side of the post.
The game badly lacked quality but on the half hour mark, McGuffie showed a bit of skill to set up a chance for Mouhamed Niang but Cochrane did well to block. As Queens broke, Adam Brooks hit a low right foot shot from 20-yards but Milosz Sliwinski got down to save.
It was a battle and the next chance came for the home side when Tony Wallace shot was deflected out for a corner by Cochrane. As they delivered, Ruth fouled Stewart and the danger was over.
Ten minutes before the interval, Kennedy hit a long ball forward, as it was knocked back into the path of Brooks, the striker caught it on the volley with power but it ended up wide of the target.
Unable to create much due to the pitch, Queens were trying to play it long but Mark Durnan and Clark won everything in the air.
With three minutes of the first half remaining, Wallace and Greig Young combined well with Young getting himself into the box only to fire over from close range.
HALF TIME: Dumbarton 0 Queens 0
Two minutes after the restart Jordan Allan was in but some how his toe poke ended up the wrong side of the goal.
It was a lively start to the second half by Queens and a minute later, Brooks found himself in on goal but the defense did its job. Blair almost turned the clearance into his own net but it stayed out.
Queens had certainly stepped it up and this time Oscar MacIntyres left foot volley was dipping but was again wide of the upright.
Kennedy, Liam Smith, and Allan all linked well to create an opening but it was Brooks who had the final shot and he turned it wide. Queens had put the home side under pressure for five minutes but couldnt take their chances.
As things settled down, Orsi crossed into the box and as Stewart saved, he couldnt hold it and as the ball fell behind him, Ruth was on his own but thankfully the frontman was too far forward to connect.
At the other end as Kennedy played in a corner, Durnan was on hand to head clear.
With an hour of the game gone, Allan played a nice touch back to Brooks but as he aimed for the near post he dragged the ball wide. Midway through the second half, Brooks hit a snap shot but again he was well off target.
Queens fought for an opener and as Brooks tried again, Young was lucky his clearance went out for a corner and not past his own keeper. This time as Kennedy played in the set-piece, Ruth was back to head clear.
With the clock ticking down Smith tried to cross to an area where Brooks, Fraser Bryden and Kennedy were waiting but Sliwinski collected ahead of them all.
Two minutes after that chance, some scrappy defending by Taylor Charters and Hannah earned the home side a corner, but as they delivered it passed across the face of the goal without a challenge.
In the closing stages, Hannah blocked from James Hilton and Kennedy fired over after making his way down the right-hand side. But the best chance came in the final minute when Kennedy raced forward before picking out Charters on the wing, the defender played the perfect cross into the box, Benji Luissint was in the middle but from close range couldnt steer the ball over the line. It hit off the midfielder and away from goal and both sides had to settle for a point.
A draw wasnt enough for Queens to take advantage of other score-lines and left Dumbarton relegated to league two.
