Match Preview v Motherwell 180723

Jul 17 2023 11:58

And we are back!

Competitive football returns to Palmerston tomorrow with our first game of the 2023/24 season at home to Motherwell in the Viaplay League Cup group stages. The visitors began their campaign away at Elgin with a 2-0 victory on Saturday and sit top of Group G after the first round of fixtures.

Our last game against The Steelmen was two years ago when we faced them at Fir Park in the same competition. Ruari Paton and Ally Roy had given us a two-goal lead at the interval but after Tony Watt pulled one back early in the second half, further goals from Ricki Lamie and Kaiyne Woolery earned them a 3-2 win.

Although we’ve had training sessions and a pre-season game against Gretna at home, this will be the first “real” chance for supporters to take in a game on our new surface and to see how the squad is shaping up.

Supporters Information

As per last season, Queens supports will have access to The Alpha Solway stand, along with the West section of the BDS and the Oakbank Terracing. While for this match, sections 7 – 9 in the East side of the BDS has been allocated to Motherwell supporters.

To gain entry to the BDS stand – HOME supporters should use turnstiles 1 & 2, while AWAY fans should enter via turnstiles 3 & 4. Entry to the Oakbank Terrace will be via turnstiles 16 & 17 only. Please note that there will be no general entry to the BDS Stand via the terracing so please make sure you enter the ground via the correct turnstiles.

Turnstiles will be open for spectator entry around 1830.

Entry is by ticket only and it is encouraged that you purchase these in advance if possible. Tickets are now on sale for both home and away fans online via our ticket partner TicketCo, using the link below:

www.qosfc.com/buytickets

Prices for the game are:

Adults: £12
All Concessions (OAP/Students, 16–21-year-olds): £6
Pre-school: Free

All concessions ticket holders should bring proof of entitlement as this will be checked at the ground prior to entry.

Tickets will be available online until kick off for both sets of supporters. Home fans can purchase tickets at the ground from the ticket office located within the QOS Arena. Motherwell supporters should note that the ticket booth is for home fans only and AWAY tickets should be purchased ONLINE.

The only way to buy tickets in advance will be online.

Please note that tickets are not transferable or refundable.

Car parking will be available to all spectators within the Queen of the South Arena car park. It is suggested that buses/minibuses drop off their passengers in Terregles St/King Street and thereafter park on College Mains road just off the roundabout with the A76 on the town bypass (adjacent to Curry’s/PC World, as the other side at Aldi is the access road to the ambulance depot and is extremely busy). Pick up should be the same location as drop off. Supporters’ buses including minibuses will not be allowed to park in the Arena car park.

Roadworks continue around the region but no major delays are expected, however people travelling should check Traffic Scotland website at http://trafficscotland.org/index.aspx for confirmation on the day.

The catering outlets within the supporter’s areas of the ground will also be open for use. And the bar under the Alpha Solway stand will be open to both sets of supporters’ pre-match. The Snaq café with the Arena is also now open and will have a range of snacks on offer ahead of kick off.

For safety reasons, QOS have adopted a robust and thorough search policy for spectators entering the ground to ensure that ground rules and regulations are strictly adhered to, especially in relation to pyrotechnic devices and controlled containers. We would like to remind supporters that letting off smoke devices is a criminal offence, and anyone found doing so will be referred to Police Scotland which may result in a custodial sentence. Not only is it against the law, but it is also extremely dangerous and a health hazard to other spectators. All bags will be searched and spectators presenting themselves for entry may also be subject to search. Spectators who refuse to be searched by stewards will be denied entry to the ground.

Palmerston Park is a non-smoking venue; this includes e cigarettes and other such devices. Stewards are empowered to eject spectators who disobey these rules. No persons will be admitted to the ground who are deemed to be under the influence of alcohol.

The club shop located in the Arena will be open until kick off where you can purchase our club merchandise.

Tomorrow’s game kicks off at 7.45 pm. In the event of the game being level at the end of 90 minutes, we will go straight to penalties to determine who picks up a bonus point.
