Looking to make it three wins from three in the league, Manager Marvin Bartley took his side to Kelty Hearts and made three changes to the side that started against Hamilton. Jack Brydon and Jaze Kabia who were cup tied for the SPFL Trust trophy semi-final returned to the starting eleven along with Lewis Gibson. Ryan Muir missed out with Kieran McKechnie and Michael Ruth dropping to the bench.
After three minutes, Kabia went to go past Jack Milne at the edge of the box and as he was hauled down, Gibson hit the free kick, it was a decent strike, but Darren Jamieson got a hand to it to push it wide. Minutes later, Robbie Leitch played the ball in for Alfredo Agyeman, but Stephen Hendrie got there ahead of the striker to head the ball out for a corner.
Back up the other end of the park, Gibson played in another terrific ball, Kabia met it with a header, but the keeper blocked with his feet from close range. As Brydon challenged Jamie Barjonas inside the box, the home players claimed for a penalty, but referee Barry Cook had a clear view of it and agreed it was a fair tackle. Ruari Paton then did well to win the ball from Milne to play it out wide for Hendrie who created the chance, but Kabia was offside.
Queens were the better side without causing too many problems, but it was the home side who had the ball in the net midway through the first half following a free kick, but the flag was up on the far side, and it remained goal-less. Captain, Michael Tidsers free kick was headed clear by Brydon as far as Leitch, but his effort skied over the bar.
On the half hour mark, Queens moved up the park with some good passing only for Gibsons left foot shot to be deflected out for a corner by Reis Peggie.
In the closing stages of the first half, Brydon blocked from Leitch at one end while at the other, Connor Murrays right foot effort was turned out for a corner by Jamieson with the resulting set piece from Gibson, knocked back out to Murray who hit it first time with his right but hit it too high.
Agyeman got the break of the ball, but his delivery was cleared by Brydon and on the stroke of half time, Kabia went for a loose ball, but the keeper got there first.
HALF TIME: Kelty Hearts 0 Queens 0
Into the second half and it was Paton who had the first effort on goal, he kept the ball low but didnt get enough on it to test the keeper. Queens looked to have stepped it up and Josh Todd was played in with a pass that split the defence from Paton but as he passed for Hendrie he was tackled inside the box before he could shoot.
The home side started to enjoy a good spell and as they made an attempt on Queens goal, Paton was penalised for a handball, Tidser played the free kick short for Kallum Higginbotham at the side, but Hendrie cleared for a corner.
With the introduction of Joe Cardle on the hour mark the game was turning in favour of the hosts and they had a claim for handball waved away before they were awarded a spot kick for handball against Hendrie. With Kevin Dabrowski going the wrong way, Higginbotham slotted the ball into the bottom corner.
As Queens tried to get back into it Jamieson stood tall as Ross Irving played the ball in for Paton and with fifteen minutes left to play, it was game over as Kelty scored a second. As Agyeman broke, he got the better of Brydon to calmly side foot the ball across Dabrowski into the bottom corner.
Queens had a couple of chances, but Hendrie was too high from distance and the keeper made a good save from McKechnie. And as the corner came in Thomas OWare cleared off the line from Paton. But they couldnt get to grips with it and as Iain Wilson gave away a free kick, Queens failed to deal with it and Higginbotham fired past Dabrowski to make it three to round off a disappointing afternoon for Queens.
