Update from the Manager

Manager James Fowler was pleased with both the result and performance against Dumbarton at the weekend.

“It was a really good result and a good performance, I thought we controlled the majority of the game and restricted Dumbarton’s chances.  We knew they’d be a handful but we defended well and created chances to win comfortably in the end”.

“We have a target of being in the top four again this season, so we need to make sure we’re picking up points from the teams that we think are going to be roundabout us or below, so to take maximum points from our opening games is important and pleasing”.

The boss quickly turned his attention to tomorrow evenings cup tie against Morton and hopes that being at home will give his side enough of an advantage to progress further in the competition.

“It’s another big one, we were disappointed at going out of the cup last week so it’s a game we want to make sure we win.  I was at Morton’s game against St Mirren on Friday and they had the better of the game and probably were unlucky not to win.  So we know it’s going to be another tough one, they have decent players, people who can score goals – players like Peter MacDonald.  He’s been round the block, probably a bit like our own Derek Lyle, he can score and is still a clever player.  So we need to be aware of their threat but we’re at home again and want to get through to the next round”.

“Being at home didn’t help us last week, but hopefully it will this time.  The surface helps with the way we want to play, so if we can play our normal game hopefully we’ll have enough to get through”.

Alex Harris who made an impressive debut at Dumbarton at the weekend is cup-tied while Kyle Jacobs is also likely to miss out with a groin injury.  However, goal-keeper Robbie Thomson who required stitches for a head wound has trained and should be available for selection.

Dale Hilson and Callum Tapping are still side-lined through injury.  Dale who suffered a foot injury is  seeing a specialist this week, so that will determine how long he’ll be out, but Callum should be returning to training this week.
