Annan 0 : 4 Queens - Report

Jul 12 2016 22:38

It was another comfortable pre-season win tonight as Queens scored 4 without reply against local rivals Annan at Galabank.

The visitors started with a strong lineup and had the majority of the play in the first half but could only register one goal. That came on 21 minutes when Hilson twisted and turned out wide before playing in a low cross which Rigg stooped to head in at the near post. The two strikers combined again shortly after, this time Rigg was the provider but Hilson could only watch his shot cannon off the post. Brotherston also hit the woodwork late on in the half with a dipping long range shot and in between those chances Dowie should have done better with a free header from a Hamill corner.

It was all  change again at the half for Queens, with only Robinson, Marshall and Brotherson returning for the second half.

Again, it was mostly Queens in possession and they went further ahead on 68 minutes with a well worked goal between Lyle and Smith. The youngster intercepted a poor clearance, laid it off to Lyle who then played Smith in through the inside left channel. Smith showed great vision to spot his strike partner making the run into the box and cut it back perfectly for Lyle to finish from 6 yards.

And it was Lyle who got the third goal just a couple of minutes later. This time Millar was the creator when he cut out a poor clearance by the Annan keeper before sliding the ball into Lyles path just inside the box. The veteran striker cut inside a defender before placing the ball past the keeper into the net.

Lyle also had a big hand in the fourth, and final, goal of the night. He held the ball up on half way before playing a lovely through ball to Connor Murray down the right. The youngster showed great skill and speed to tear down the wing before delivering a brilliant cross into the box for Aiden Smith to guide home at the far post.

There is one more friendly, tomorrow (Wednesday) at Penrith before it all kicks off again with the Betfred Cup on Saturday, away to Queens Park. And dont forget the first home game of the season is just one week away when Airdrie are the visitors in the same competition.
