Match Preview - Dumbarton 3rd Dec

After the disappointment of Tuesday night its back to league action in a crucial match with Dumbarton at Palmerston.

The last time the sides met we were top of the table and eight places separated the two sides. Now its just three places and seven points.

The Opposition

Dumbarton have won just once since the 0-0 draw at the Rock back at the beginning of October, a vital 1-0 win over St Mirren. Like us, they have also lost to Ayr, Dundee Utd and Morton, unlike us, they've also managed to record a couple of draws against Dunfermline and Raith Rovers.

Dumbarton have also found goals hard to come by, scoring just four times in those six games.

The Game

This Ladbrokes Championship match kicks off at 3pm on Saturday 3rd December at Palmerston Park, Dumfries. Live updates will be available on the website and on twitter and Facebook. We will also publish pictures through the day on our new Instagram Channel

There will be a minutes silence before the game to remember the victims of the Associação Chapecoense de Futebol plane crash earlier this week.

The Dressing Room

As our poor run of form continues, we’ve had a couple of very disappointing results.  Losing against Hibs at Easter Road and then to Albion Rovers in the Cup. For me both results were of our own making, with individual errors. However,  I'm confident things will improve but we need to cut these out from our play.

Being out of the Scottish Cup is a major disappointment for us; Tuesday nights defeat against Albion Rovers was probably the lowest of my career.  With the incentive of a money spinning tie against Celtic in the next round it makes it even harder to take.  We had hoped to get a wee run in the cup again, but we now have to forget that and focus on the Championship.

It’s a difficult time for everyone at the club just now, but I believe we have a good bunch of players who are capable of achieving success and I’m sure we will still be up there come May IF we can find the consistency and form that we all desire.

It’s good to be back at Palmerston, the first time in a few weeks, this weekend's visitors, Dumbarton are a well organised hardworking side who are more than capable of holding their own in the division.  So are a real threat and we have to be on our guard.

With St Mirren at Palmerston on Tuesday, it's the first of two important home games for us so in terms of confidence we need to get a result.

The Team

Kyle Jacobs who missed Tuesday's cup tie against Albion Rovers due to a hamstring injury, will be back in the squad for Saturday.  Steven Rigg who was also missing on Tuesday with a knee injury is waiting for a scan.

The Officials

Referee : Gavin Duncan
Assistant 1 : John McCrossan
Assistant 2 : David Dunne

This will be just Mr Duncans third game in charge of one of our games. The last was the 3-1 win over Raith that took us top of the league. The other a 2-2 draw against Alloa last season when he awarded two penalties, one to either side.

The Stats

The league head to heads, at Palmerston, show a clear lead for the home side with 25 wins to 16 and just 4 draws. In fact, we've won the last five league meetings at Palmerston, going back to 2013, including a 6-0 win in March this year. Every Queens fan would love a repeat of that!
