Newton Stewart v QoS u20's - South Challenge Cup

On Friday night the u20's were away to Newton Stewart in the South of Scotland Challenge Cup at Blairmont Park.

The game was played in tricky freezing conditions on a 3G surface. The first half was fairly even with neither goalkeeper tested much. The best chance of the half fell to Bailey White when he flicked the ball over the home goalkeeper from the edge of the box only to see the ball drift wide.

The second period was similarly tight but just after the hour mark Jack Wintr got clear down the line to cross for Bailey White to finish well and put Queens 1-0 up. The closing period saw the home side throw everything forward looking for an equaliser which finally arrived in the 88th minute. A minute later Declan Tremble broke clear on goal and was uncermoniously fouled from behind leading to a red card for the Newton Stewart player. The free kick outside the box however came to nothing and the game finished 1-1 at 90 minutes. With the home side facing extra time with 10 men it looked like Queens would have the edge but the referee decided that conditions had deteriorated to such an extent that he didn't feel a further 30 minutes were playable on the surface and abandoned the match. A rearrangement will need to be scheduled.
