With the January transfer window opening we are pleased to announce that Barry Maguire will be joining us from Motherwell. The 20 year old central defender who came through the youth ranks at Fir Park stands at six foot two and joins us from the Premiership club until the end of the season.
Queens boss, Gary Naysmith said "I am delighted to eventually bring Barry to the club. He is someone who I tried to sign in the previous transfer window but for one reason or another it just didn't materialize. He is someone that Motherwell have really high hopes for and he has already made several appearances for the first team. We were one of three or four championship clubs that agreed terms with Motherwell to sign Barry, so I am delighted that he saw Queen of the South as the right club to try and help him progress his career. Barry is primarily a central defender but can fill in in a few different positions if needed so his versatility is a plus. He is a good height, has good athleticism and is comfortable passing the ball with either foot and I am sure he will be a fantastic addition to the squad for the second part of the season".
Like Nicky Low who agreed a deal to join the club earlier in the week, Barry will go straight into the squad for Saturday’s game at Inverness.
