Match Preview v Ross County

It's Friday night football for us this week as we head to Dingwall for our penultimate game of the 2018/19 Championship season.  Both teams have something to play for, County need a point to secure the title, while we aim to climb the table.

Queens have a decent record against the Staggies so far this season with two draws and a win in our favour.  Our first meeting in September finished goal-less, while Andy Stirling's strike cancelled out Josh Mullin's opener in our one all draw in Dingwall in December and in our last meeting, we were four - nil winners, with goals from Michael Doyle and Barry Maguire sandwiched in between a Stephen Dobbie double.

As he prepares the side for the trip North, manager Gary Naysmith is looking for the team to build on last weekend's important two - one win over Dunfermline.

"It was a massive win for us, we knew a draw wouldn't really have been enough for us and the boys were up for it from the start.  It wasn't a lucky win, it was a totally deserved win.  I'm just disappointed for them that they didn't manage to keep a clean-sheet. But they deserve a lot of credit for putting in the performance they did in such a pressured game.

Before we played Dunfermline, our fate was in our own hands, the result means that's still the case with two games to go.

The league is so tight, because of our goal difference, if we win and Dunfermline lose then we go above them and nobody is mentioning them being dragged into it.  So that's our aim, I want the players to go and target two wins to get us up to 44 points.  That would probably mean that we finished fifth or sixth in the league and that would be my best finish as Queens Manager so that's my mindset.

This week we head to Ross County.  It's not ideal for anyone that the game is on Friday night, it's not fair on the fans being asked to make a nine hour round trip and it means that our rivals will be playing knowing our result, but these are things we have no control over so we just have to get on with it and go out for the win.

They've not mathematically won the league, so they will want to get the point they need but there is no doubt they will be going for a win in front of their own fans.  However, we have our own agenda as a victory would be a big step towards safety for us.

If you look at the teams in the top half of the table against the teams in the bottom half, we have one of the best away records, so we have no fear.  Yes we will treat them with respect, as they have a good squad but with two draws and a win against them we know we can get a result against them and it's up to us to go and show that again.

We are still without Stephen Dobbie for the game".
