Manager Allan Johnston returned to the dug-out yesterday for our game away at Dunfermline and afterwards shared his thoughts on the match.
“We could’ve got something but at the end of the day we can’t give away the goals that we are giving away that’s 10 goals in three league games, it’s terrible defending at set pieces especially and its really cost us dear you can work on set pieces in training as much as you like when it comes to the crunch and you’re doing it in games you need to get closer to people, you need to win your headers and be more aggressive and at the moment we’re not doing that”.
“The first one is a free header, the second one Dan dives in and he is a wee bit naive and the third one I think comes into that front area and I think Connor has probably got to win it and then obviously we are second to the loose ball as well. I would need to see them again but obviously we have to defend them a lot better”.
“Of course the number of goals we have conceded is a cause for concern because the boys have a mountain to climb every game when you are losing goals from corners and free kicks and the second phase of stuff. They showed a lot of fight and character coming back in the way they played but it’s too little too late because we can’t afford to lose the goals we are losing”.
“When you score two goals away from home you are hoping to take something – you can see we need to tighten up a the set pieces but we restricted Dunfermline to few chances and they are a top team they’ve got really good players and we limited them to very few opportunities so credit to them on that side of things but at the end of the day it was three points that we needed”.
“We definitely need the first win, you could see when they lost the first goal from a corner the heads went down a wee bit and then when they got the second from the penalty which is cheap as well. For the last fifteen minutes of the first half the heads went down but credit to them they got back at it in the second half obviously we got the goal and we looked like we could get something out of the game but it wasn’t to be”.
“The conditions weren’t great but you can’t make excuses for losing three goals from corners that is just really poor and that is something we need to improve on but there were a lot of positives there as well that’s the thing we are not far away so if we can cut out the silly mistakes we can at least give ourselves a chance”.
