Post match reaction

Earlier this evening we picked up a 3 -1 victory over Queens Park at Hampden in our final group match of the Betfred League Cup. Manager Allan Johnston said “It’s great to get the win. There were a lot of good performances out there tonight. We never started the game well the first 10/15 minutes but once we got to grips with it I thought we were really good. We defended well, we attacked really well and we could’ve scored more goals so it’s really pleasing”.

“We have a lot of good young players, we rested guys like Wullie Gibson who has done well recently and Dobs so it’s really good when you see some of these young guys stepping in and staking a claim for a place in the team”.

James Maxwell settled the tie ten minutes from time when he scored his second goal in as many games for the club, AJ added “He is a really good young kid and is doing really well, he has got a big future ahead of him and I’m sure the experience of playing week in week out will help his development”.

For the second game in a row the defence tightened up and have stopped giving away goals like they had been in previous matches, much to the delight of the Gaffer “We have been losing really cheap goals since the start of the season and putting ourselves under pressure but hopefully that has turned a corner. There are a lot of new players but it’s too easy to make excuses we have to defend well and hopefully we can take that into the league campaign”.

Having played all our group matches we are without a game this weekend but despite not having the chance to carry on the momentum of the victory the manager isn’t too unhappy that we have a free weekend “We’ve got a few injuries so it will give us a chance to get boys back, but the ones that came in tonight did really well. There were really good performances throughout the whole team, there were no failures, they worked incredibly hard with and without the ball and showed a lot of quality so I’m delighted to get the win and I’m sure that will do the confidence a lot of good”.
