Managers Thoughts Post Raith

We finished our 2020 fixtures with a two - nil victory over Raith Rovers thanks to goals from Connor Shields and Tommy Goss and a clean-sheet from 16 year old goal-keeper Charlie Cowie.  Manager, Allan Johnston has been sharing his post-match reaction.

"I am delighted for the players because every game they've been making a mistake they've been getting punished and losing goals but you can see what it meant to the players, they gave everything and managed to get the win.  Hopefully now we can get a bit of confidence from that and start climbing the table".

"Sometimes you get thrust in, Jack was meant to be playing but he felt his knee in the warm-up so young Charlie gets his chance and he was excellent.  He had a couple of really important saves and I thought the players in front of him were excellent as well, they defended really well, tried to protect him, stopped crosses coming into the box, headed everything away so credit to the team. Ayo and Gregor were outstanding, they have taken a bit of stick over the course of the season but that is the standard we are looking for and they have to be like that week in week out, they were outstanding as were the whole team, we defended well, sometimes we had to dig in but we did that and got the three points".

"For me Connor Shields was the standout, he was outstanding.  He was everywhere, he was a consent threat, he was in the channels, he was in the box, he was causing mayhem and it was obviously a good goal as well. So I'm delighted for him, we've got a lot of good options going forward, you can see the pace we've got and that will help the confidence.  Connor went off but hopefully it isn't serious because you can see what an important player he is for us.  There were a lot of good performances out there, the experienced players all stepped up to the mark and the younger ones as well, players like Euan East , he created the second goal but you could see how much of a threat he was and young Tommy getting the second goal, I'm delighted for him getting off the mark as well".

"We had two players out due to covid and already had a couple of injuries, Dobs and Nortei, Rohan was ill so the players missing all mounts up but you can see the players that played stepped up and we are going to have to be ready because we are going to have to rely on them again at the weekend and hopefully the can put in another good performance".
