Match Preview v Morton (Home)

This weekend we look to continue our good form as we welcome Greenock Morton to Palmerston.

We are unbeaten in our last four games (three wins and a draw), whilst our visitors have also seen an upturn of form in recent weeks, not losing in five (two wins and three draws). The Ton’s last defeat came at Tynecastle in David Hopkin’s last game in charge, meaning new manager Anton McElhone has enjoyed an undefeated start to his tenure at Cappielow.

It’s the third time the two sides have met this season, with the teams playing out a competitive 2-2 draw in the first game of the Betfred Cup thanks to goals from Connor Shields and Stephen Dobbie. Queens went on to win the resulting penalty shoot-out before Morton won 2-0 when the sides met in league action in December.

After joining on loan from Rangers yesterday, Dapo Mebude goes straight into the squad for the game.

For the visitors, Jim McAllister, Cameron Blues, James Wallace and Robbie Muirhead are expected to return this weekend after short spells out, McAllister was the only one fit enough for the bench in Morton’s last game, although didn’t feature. Ex-Doonhamer Kyle Jacobs is expected to be named amongst the subs as he’s still working his way back to full fitness. Experienced centre-half Brian McLean is the only doubt this weekend for the Ton, although the Cappielow side have lost wingers Josh McPake (Rangers) and Ross MacIver (Motherwell), both returning to their respective parent clubs.

Ahead of the game, Queens boss, Allan Johnston said “Although we picked up a point, last week’s game was two points dropped.  Being two goals up we should have gone on to win, so it was disappointing for us that we allowed Arbroath back into the game.

We will continue to work on the weaknesses but we shouldn’t forget the positives.  The draw stretched our unbeaten run to four games as the players again showed quality, energy and scored great goals.  We also managed to get some players back from injury and illness which strengthens the squad.

The players have had a good weeks training and are ready for the game against a side that have similar ambitions to us”.
