Match Preview v Hamilton (H)

We return to Palmerston tomorrow when we host Hamilton Academicals in the Championship.

It’s been a few years since the two sides faced each other in a competitive match as the last time we played was the 8th of March 2014. The game ended in a one all draw; Martin Canning opened the scoring just before the hour mark only for Gavin Reilly to equalise within six minutes.

In the same season, Accies were 1-0 and 2-0 winners in the league while Derek Lyle scored the only goal of the game when we met in the Scottish Cup in November 2013. Since then we’ve been in different leagues with the visitors playing in the topflight.

While we picked up our first win away at Morton last week to move to 6th in the Championship, they are still looking for their first league victory of the season and sit 8th in the table as one of four teams on a point.

Looking ahead to the game Manager, Allan Johnston said “It wasn’t a classic last week, but it was a very good three points for us. When you go to places like Morton you sometimes have to deal with the physical side of the game, and we handled that well. I thought it was a good performance and we deserved the win. It was an important victory to keep us in the mix.

It is always good to get points on the board especially early in the season. Every point is going to be massive this season and with us having such a young team it gives them a confidence boost.

Hamilton haven’t made the start that they would’ve been hoping for, but it is early in the season and I wouldn’t read too much into that. I’ve watched a few of their games and I think they have been unfortunate as they have dominated a lot of their games. We just need to focus on ourselves and if we show the same levels that we have in the last few weeks then I will be happy and hopefully we will be able to build on last week’s win”.

“The players who have been missing due to Covid and sickness have returned to training this week so are back in the squad. Elsewhere, Alex Cooper is back training so it’s just a case of him getting up to speed and Udoka Chima will hopefully get back into training next week. For those who are out longer term, Josh Rae’s surgery went well so he has started his recovery and, Kieran continues his rehabilitation but is progressing really well. So, players are starting to come back”.

With restrictions gradually lifting we are now able to offer on the day ticket sales. We still have red zone restrictions in place so certain areas of the ground, including the Alpha Solway stand remain out of bounds for supporters.

Home fans will be located up to and including section 5 in the West section of the BDS stand and the Portland Road terrace. Entry to the BDS Stand for our fans will be via turnstile 1 and 2. While home supporters should use turnstiles 16 & 17 to gain access to the terrace.

Away fans have been allocated the East part of the BDS stand, sections 7 & 8. Turnstile 4 will be in use in the BDS Stand for Away fans.

Wheelchair access for away supporters is on the south side of BDS Digital stand. There is a layby on King Street for vehicles to drop their passengers for flat access to the ground. Disabled parking is available on the north side of the BDS Digital Stand or at the Arena car park. The cost of entry of 1 personal assistant is included in the price of the accessible ticket.

Please note that the BDS Stand ticket offices are CASH ONLY. Spectators are requested to bring the correct ticket money with them. This will ease pressure on the ticket office.

It is suggested that buses/minibuses drop off their passengers in Terregles St/King Street and thereafter park on College Mains road just off the roundabout with the A76 on the town bypass (adjacent to Curry’s/PC World, as the other side at Aldi is the access road to the ambulance depot and is extremely busy). Pick up should be the same location as drop off. Supporters buses including minibuses will not be allowed to park in the Arena car park.

There are no ongoing roadworks currently around Dumfries that may affect travel times to Palmerston Park. Fans should check the Traffic Scotland website at http://trafficscotland.org/index.aspx for confirmation of any delays.

QOS have adopted a robust and thorough search policy for spectators entering the ground to ensure that ground rules and regulations are strictly adhered to, especially in relation to pyrotechnic devices and controlled containers. All bags will be searched and spectators presenting themselves for entry may also be subject to search. Spectators who refuse to be searched by stewards will be denied entry to the ground.

Palmerston Park is a non-smoking venue, this includes e cigarettes and other such devices. Stewards are empowered to eject spectators who disobey these rules. No persons will be admitted to the ground who are deemed to be under the influence of alcohol.
