Rico Quitongo Checks In

Our 2nd signing of the day is a relatively familiar name in Scottish football. Rico Quitongo comes from a well known footballing family. Father Jose arrived in Scotland in the mid 1990’s and settled here, playing for Hamilton, Hearts and St Mirren among others. Older brother Jai is also well known since coming through at Morton and was most recently at Queen’s Park alongside today’s earlier signing, Stuart Morrison.

Rico will be familiar to Queens fans, having done pre-season with us in 2019 before joining Dumbarton. Two years with the Sons in League One were followed by spells last season with Airdrie and latterly Peterhead. A regular starter at full back for all three sides, he’s very familiar with this level of football and has agreed a one year deal at Queens.

Wullie Gibson said, “I’ve had my eye on Rico for some time and Grant has seen plenty of him in the last couple of seasons. He’s a capable full back at this level and has plenty of experience under his belt now. I want to see him getting on the ball and carrying a threat up the line as well as doing his job defensively.”

Rico Quitongo said, “I was keen to get back into full time football and Queen of the South is a good step up for me at this stage. I know a lot of the guys in the squad, and was really keen to get a deal done when I found out the Gaffer was interested in me. I can’t wait to get started.”
