Match Preview v Montrose (A) - 060822

Tomorrow we have our first away league game of the season as we head to Montrose.

The last time we visited Links Park was back in May 2019 when Allan Johnston returned to the dug-out taking over from Gary Naysmith in the play-offs. It wasn’t a great return as Ross Campbell scored either side of Connor Murray’s strike to give the home side a 2 – 1 victory.

It was better a few days later, the last time the two-sides faced each other at Palmerston, when five goals in the first half eased us through in the second leg. Lyndon Dykes and Michael Doyle were on target along with Stephen Dobbie who broke the record for goals scored in a season with a hat-trick.

Looking ahead to tomorrow’s trip Manager Wullie Gibson said “We were all bitterly disappointed after the game last weekend. It was nowhere near the levels that the boys set for themselves, and we let ourselves and the fans down. It was a bit of a reality check for all of us and showed that we have to battle as well as playing nice football.

We spent time analysing it on Monday. It’s not something we can forget but the players will learn from it, and we have to move on.

This week we travel to Montrose. They’re another well drilled side who have been in the play-offs fairly regularly, so we are under no illusions.

We’ve had a good week in training, so we need to kick on and take that out onto the park”.
