Match Report

The Doonhamers fought back from 2-0, and then 3-2 down, to get a well-deserved point in Kirkcaldy on a chilly Tuesday evening.

Allan Johnston opted to make three changes to the side that began the game against Dunfermline with Ben Liddle, Innes Cameron and Josh Todd replacing Ally Roy, Roberto Nditi and Sam Folarin in the starting XI.

Needing to get off to a fast start, Queens done quite the opposite.

Jamie Gullan tested Josh Rae after only 40 seconds, although the Queens shot-stopper was on hand to make a solid save from range.

The South weren?t so lucky after 9 minutes, however, after an Aidan Connolly cross was tapped in from close range by Dario Zanatta.

Zanatta beats OConnor and Rae to bundle the ball over the line

The Starks Park outfit only needed to wait another four minutes to double their lead after the creator of the previous goal, Aidan Connolly, found the back of the net with a curling effort from just inside the area.

An unstoppable effort from Connolly to make it 2-0

The Doonhamers then had a combination of Rae and the post to thank seconds later for keeping things at two. After a sloppy pass from the restart, Sam Stanton skipped past the Queens midfield, before shooting from 20 yards out, forcing Rae to tip onto his far post.

Thankfully, the away side really grew into the game after this and began to look more threatening in the forward areas, as well as controlling things in the midfield after a slow start.

A ball into the area by Alex Cooper inadvertently fell to Ben Liddle, who swivelled onto his left-peg into the area, firing past the helpless Jamie MacDonald after 18 minutes to pull one back.

Liddle swivels and shoots home to start the comeback

Queens kept venturing forward threateningly, with Lee Connelly almost equalising on 28 minutes with a wicked curling effort from range, only to be denied by MacDonald.

HT: Raith 2-1 Queens

Each side had 15 minutes on top in Fife, though it was the hosts who took advantage of their good early play to edge things.

The opening five minutes of the second period were?well?busy, to say the least!

On 48 minutes Queens got themselves back on level terms after Connelly found Alex Cooper in bags of space on the left hand side, with Queens? no. 3 making no mistake in firing through MacDonald in the Raith goal.

Cooper does a `Beasley`

It was almost a short-lived leveller however after Darragh O?Connor bundled down a Rovers played in the area, leaving Grant Irvine no choice but to point to the spot for a home penalty.

Up stepped Jamie Gullan, but there was no beating Josh Rae from 12 yards, with the Queens ?keeper diving to his right to deny the hosts a third.

Rae makes the penalty save

The game settled down after the frantic opening five minutes with Rovers controlling the ball without creating much. Rae made a good save from a Tumilty shot, albeit it was a save he would have expected to make.

Ruari Paton and Nditi were later introduced to the game on the 70th minute, replacing Liddle and Todd for the Doonhamers.

Max Johnston was the first man in Irvine?s book on the 80th minute for bringing down Ethan Ross on the break, before Aidan Fitzpatrick replaced Connelly for Queens.

However, on 83 minutes, Rovers substitute Matej Poplatnik got on the end of a loose defensive header from Queens to regain his sides lead with just minutes left.

Queens could quite easily have crumbled, however the South showed sublime character as just two minutes later Shea Gordon struck an utterly sensational volley from 30 yards out, beating MacDonald, to pull Queens back onto level terms for the second time.

Delight at Gordons strike and a well deserved draw

FT: Raith 3-3 Queens

Travelling fans

Apart from a manic opening 15 minutes, which was ultimately why Queens only got one point and not three, it was an improved performance from the South.

Plenty of positives to take for AJ and his side as we travel to Glasgow to take on Partick Thistle on Saturday.
