The only away game in the month of January saw Queens head up the road to take on Alloa. Manager, Peter Murphy stayed loyal to the same eleven that started the game against Cove Rangers last weekend.
Queens got off to the best possible start when Benjamin Luissint scored his first goal of the season. Brennan Dickenson on the left-hand side of the box, played the side pass to the midfielder and with a neat finish he placed the ball past P J Morrison with just four minutes played.
Two minutes later, Reece Lyon won a free kick but the wall blocked Kyle Dohertys effort.
The visitors were in control of the game and playing some good football and 35-yards out from goal, Dickenson took a touch and turned before running through on goal, unfortunately his left foot shot was just wide of the target.
As the hosts started to come more into the game, at the other end of the park, Luke Rankin fired his left foot effort over. Before Cameron ODonnell managed to get the ball over the top for Connor Sammon who despite being under pressure from Matty Douglas did manage to have a shot from close range only for Ross Stewart to get a strong fist on it to punch it away for a corner.
It was a good spell for the home side and Queens had to be strong defensively as ODonnell dragged a shot across goal and Rankin homed in on the target, but Jack Hannah made a great block inside the six-yard box.
Midway through the half, Mikey Hewitt got on the end of Dohertys free kick, but his close-range header was cleared. The ball did come back out to Doherty who opened up a chance by dragging the ball along the edge of the box, but Dickensons final ball was wide.
It was a decent game of football that was flowing from end to end and as the ball came in from the right, Sammon wasnt too far away with a header. And with just over half an hour gone, Adam Brooks cut inside and fired towards goal, but he was denied as the home side cleared for a corner.
Chances were there for both sides and as the lively ODonnells 25-yard effort just cleared the top of the crossbar at one end, Brooks did well to hold off a challenge from Morgyn Neill and Stefan Scougall at the other before dragging a shot just wide.
In the final five minutes of the first half, Oscar MacIntyre who had been a threat down the wing set up Brooks who played it to Dickenson inside the box but again the defence blocked for a corner. Queens were fighting for the ball and Dickenson had another shot blocked before Lyon headed wide as he looked to be pushed in the back.
HALF TIME Alloa 0 Queens 1
Within minutes of the restart, Luissint missed the target as he got on the end of Hewitts throw in before Brooks turned to shot and missed when he had Doherty unmarked to his right-hand side.
It was strong from Queens and as MacIntyre whipped the ball in from the left, Dohertys header came back off the crossbar.
On the hour mark, Queens were handed a chance to extend their advantage when Dickenson and Scott Taggart tumbled in the box and referee, Alistair Grieve pointed to the spot. Lyon stepped forward to take the penalty, but Morrison guessed correctly and saved.
It was a set-back for Queens but five minutes later, MacIntyre won a challenge inside his on half and took off down the left, he played the pass for Lyon, who crossed into the box, but it was out of reach of Brooks.
The visitors were still on top and as Dickenson made his way forward unsupported to start with, his teammates caught up. Brooks turned; Dohertys shot was blocked before Harry Cochrane fired the ball into the arms of Morrison from twenty yards.
Dickenson and Doherty again combined well to win another corner before The Wasps won one of their own that Stewart cleared at the second attempt.
With fifteen minutes of the ninety remaining, Dickenson was booked for a challenge and from the free kick, ODonnell rattled a left foot shot off the crossbar.
MacIntyre who had been outstanding all afternoon outpaced Neill, he delivered the ball into the box, but Dickenson just couldnt steer it past Morrison at the near post.
Dickenson hadnt given the defenders a minutes peace either and as he raced through the middle, his right foot shot was raising and ended up over the bar.
As Alloa looked to take something from the game, Hannah, Lyon, and Hewitt all made strong headers to clear the danger and Scougall hit his shot straight at Stewart.
Dohertys header was collected by Morrison but as Queens looked to have secured their first away league win of the season, Dickenson was judged to have caught Kevin Cawley inside the box and for the second time during the game, Grieve pointed to the spot. This time, two minutes into added on time, Taggart hit the penalty kick with power past Stewart to secure a point for the home side.
