Match Preview v Inverness CT (Home)

Inverness Caledonian Thistle visit Palmerston tomorrow in the first of our remaining five “cup finals”.

The sides last met in February, we had a depleted team but snatched a 1-0 win in the Highlands through Nortei Nortey. Inverness were 9th then, well in the relegation battle. Now, the Caley Jags are sitting in 4th place in the league, although the two teams immediately above and below them have a game in hand.

Neil McCann, who is in temporary charge of Caley Thistle to cover John Robertson’s compassionate leave, has overseen a tremendous run of form.  They reached the Scottish Cup fourth round after defeating Highland rivals Ross County in Dingwall last Friday, before dismantling Greenock Morton 4-1 on Tuesday. Inverness are currently the form team in the league, picking up one more point over there past six games than us.

However, we are confident in our own run of form having only lost three league games since the 29th of December, winning nine of our last 13 league games.  So, we will be looking for the three points to push us back up the table and into the play-off places.

We were missing eight players, including Connor Shields, for the trip up north in February, but the squad looks much stronger now with only Nortey expected to be out for this weekend. Isaiah Jones returned to the fray for half an hour against Hibs while Dan Pybus is nearing full fitness and could well be back involved.

Manager Allan Johnston said “We are disappointed that we were knocked out of the Scottish Cup on Monday by a very strong Hibs side but our focus has to be the league.  It is great at this stage of the season with five games to go that we are well in the mix.  We know it is going to be tough as we are playing against the top teams in the division but we all play each other so there is a lot to play for.

But we can only control what we do and we have shown we can compete with the best teams in the league so we will continue to take it one game at a time and gather as many points as we possibly can.

It’s a big week coming up for us with the games we have to play but hopefully we will get the results that we need.  There aren’t many games left so it would be fantastic to get back on track with a win.  Both sides are in good form so I’m expecting an entertaining game and I’m sure there will be goals”.
