Match Preview v Dunfermline (Away)

We travel to Dunfermline tomorrow to face a side in a similar position to ourselves.  Both teams will be looking for a win to strengthen their hopes of claiming a promotion play-off place.

The Pars have been on a poor run of form in recent months. Since going top of the league in November, only bottom of the table Alloa Athletic have picked up less points than the Fife side.

After a sublime start to the year for us it’s been a tougher few weeks. Only one win in our last five league games has seen us drop out of the top four, however three wins in the final three league games could see us play post-season fixtures still.

In such a competitive league, only five points separate us from 9th placed Morton, who are level on points with Arbroath in 8th. However, three points from our last three games would secure at least Championship football next season.

With Isaiah Jones, Dan Pybus, Joe McKee and Nortei Nortey all coming back into the matchday squad in recent weeks, we could be at full strength for the trip to Fife tomorrow.  Only Stephen Dobbie was missing from Tuesday’s loss to Raith Rovers after picking up a knock in training.

The Pars will also have a strong squad to pick from with Lithuanian international Vytas Gaspuitis looking solid at the back since coming in to the team last month. Like Queens, Dunfermline also boast a myriad of impressive loan players in their squad, with the likes of Ewan Henderson (Celtic), Fraser Murray (Hibs) and Craig Wighton (Hearts, on loan but will sign a permanent deal in summer) all playing regularly for the East End Park side.

It's one win apiece so far this season, Dunfermline winning 3 – 2 at East End Park in October while Willie Gibson’s second half strike was the only goal of the game in our victory at Palmerston in February.

Looking ahead to the game, manager, Allan Johnston who has signed a contract extension said “It was frustrating to lose to Raith on Tuesday because I felt that it was one of our best performances.  There isn’t much between the teams in the Championship and it comes down to fine margins.

The boys gave everything but just lacked the cutting edge.  It knocked our hopes of the play-offs but there is still a lot to play for so we have to regroup and go again.

We have three important games left against teams round about us so we have to aim to take maximum points to give us the best possible chance.

Dunfermline will have the same thoughts so we know we have to remain focused but we will go there full of confidence as we have the pace and quality to hurt teams”.

A reminder that the game kick’s off at 1200.
