Queen of the South would like to say a big thank you to New College Lanarkshire (NCL) for the support shown to the club during last season’s Covid Lockdown.
As everyone in the sport and fitness world will be well aware, all gym facilities were unavailable for a long period of time. This, of course, meant that the gym in Hamilton at our training base was also unavailable to the players and staff. In the modern game Sports Science has become a major component in developing the players’ fitness.
Broadwood Campus of NCL is based in Cumbernauld, part of Broadwood Stadium and is the main Sports Hub for the College. The on campus gym facility has a wide and varied range of equipment normally used by the college students as part of their Sports curriculum.
The college kindly agreed to lend a range of equipment to the squad to use at our training base in Hamilton to ensure optimal physical preparations continued. This equipment was invaluable to us over several months of Lockdown.
The makeshift gym was in use continually over the season, adhering to COVID guidelines, maintaining the safety of all involved. The first team squad were therefore able to maintain the level of Strength Conditioning required of Professional players.
Physio Gavin Lee was also delighted to have access to the equipment as it supported injured players through their rehabilitation programmes and helped ensure a swift return from injury.

Allan Johnston and the rest of his Staff would like to say a big thank you to Todd Lumsden, the Curriculum Quality Leader at Broadwood Sports Campus.
Our Assistant Manager Sandy Clark, currently a lecturer within the sports team at Broadwood for two days a week, was instrumental in brokering the deal. Ultimately securing use of the equipment over a period of months totally free of charge. In return we look forward to hosting Todd and his staff at Palmerston sometime during next season, restrictions permitting of course…..
