Match Preview v Arbroath (H) - 19th Feb 22

After a couple of games on the road we are back at Palmerston tomorrow as we welcome Arbroath for our next cinch Championship match.

The visitors are having a great season so far and arrive in Dumfries as league leaders. They have won 12 of their 24 games in the league, along with 9 draws and only 3 defeats giving them 45 points, leaving them two points clear at the top of the table with a game in hand.

We have played each other both home and away this season. The Red Lichties were 2 – 0 winners at Palmerston in September with goals from Thomas O’Brien and Joel Nouble. While we shared the points in a 1- 1 draw at Gayfield in November. Innes Cameron opened the scoring in the 55th minute but that was cancelled out by Michael McKenna 12 minutes later.

the departure of Allan Johnston as Manager last weekend, Captain Wullie Gibson will take charge of the side tomorrow. He said “Firstly, we are sorry for Allan and Sandy, as no one likes to see anyone lose their jobs and we wish them well for the future. As players we must take some responsibility for the results this season.

However, in football, things move on and for me it’s an honour to be asked to take charge of the side. Queens are my home team, and everyone knows what the club means to me and that I will be giving it everything I can to try to get us up the table. We have 12 games left so there is still plenty of points to play for.

This weekend we welcome Arbroath who are having a phenomenal season. They might be part-time but that goes for nothing. They are at the top of the table because they have been consistent and are where they are on merit.

We are grateful for the support that we’ve had so far but we need your backing more than ever, so come along and get behind the boys”.

It is still compulsory for people to wear facing coverings in enclosed spaces in Scotland, therefore all fans must wear face coverings in enclosed areas such as concourse areas and toilets. If you don’t have a mask, then you will be denied entry to these areas. If you are exempt from wearing a mask you must provide proof of exemption. It is not a requirement to wear a mask whilst in the open, but we recommend you do.

Car parking will be available to all spectators within the Queen of the South Arena car park. It is suggested that buses/minibuses drop off their passengers in Terregles St/King Street and thereafter park on College Mains road just off the roundabout with the A76 on the town bypass (adjacent to Curry’s/PC World, as the other side at Aldi is the access road to the ambulance depot and is extremely busy). Pick up should be the same location as drop off. Supporters buses including minibuses will not be allowed to park in the Arena car park.

As far as we are aware there are no ongoing roadworks currently around Dumfries that may affect travel times to Palmerston Park. Fans should check the Traffic Scotland website at http://trafficscotland.org/index.aspx for confirmation of any delays.

The catering outlets within the supporter’s areas of the ground will also be open for use. And the bar under the Alpha Solway stand will be open to both sets of supporters’ pre-match.

QOS have adopted a robust and thorough search policy for spectators entering the ground to ensure that ground rules and regulations are strictly adhered to, especially in relation to pyrotechnic devices and controlled containers. All bags will be searched and spectators presenting themselves for entry may also be subject to search. Spectators who refuse to be searched by stewards will be denied entry to the ground.

Palmerston Park is a non-smoking venue, this includes e cigarettes and other such devices. Stewards are empowered to eject spectators who disobey these rules. No persons will be admitted to the ground who are deemed to be under the influence of alcohol.

For those who are not able to attend the match in person we are still offering a live stream of the game on QOSTV. The stream will be free for non-attending season ticket holders or as a pay per view at a fee of £10 to others. To buy PPV you’ll need to register an account before purchasing or viewing games.
