Ally McLeod Tribute

Saturday would have been Ally McLeod's 90th birthday. He had a long career in football both as a player and manager, peaking with his management of the Scottish national team, and ending with a season as Queen of the South manager in 1991/92. Those with long enough memories will certainly remember that as a season that was never dull with Andy Thomson and Jimmy McGuire a lethal scoring partnership and Henry Templeton tying defences in knots at times. He also infamously turned out (and scored) for our reserve side a couple of times at the age of 61! Sadly Ally died in 2004.

For all his achievements in the game he remains most synonymous with Ayr United, for whom he finished his playing career and had three spells in management. Ayr United will be unveiling a plaque commemorating Ally at an event next to the new Somerset Hub outside their stadium at 1:45pm on Saturday. Any Queen of the South fans would also be welcome to attend.
