Match Preview v Rangers (A) - 30th Aug 22

We are back in action tomorrow when we head to Ibrox for our Premier Sports Cup tie against Rangers.

It’s been a few years since we last faced the Glasgow side. We did spend time in the same division in season 2015/16 when both sides were in the Championship but the last time we played each other was the following campaign when we met in the Betfred Cup. The hosts ran out 5 – 0 winners that night with Jason Holt and Andy Halliday on target along with Martyn Waghorn who hit a hat-trick.

Sitting second in the topflight, Giovanni Van Bronckhorst’s side were 4-0 winners over Ross County at the weekend, while we had a disappointing defeat away at Falkirk.

Ahead of the trip Manager, Wullie Gibson said “We’re all still disappointed with the way things turned out on Saturday. It was another poor first half from ourselves that proved costly, the boys showed a big improvement after the break, and it was more like what we are capable of. I felt that heads went down when Falkirk scored but we can’t have that, that’s when we need the boys to show character.

have to be strong when we go to Ibrox, they have good players who have just qualified for the group stages of the Champions League. If we give them the same space and time as we gave Falkirk, they will hurt us.

However, we are not just going to make up the numbers, it’s a cup tie so who knows what can happen. I know we’re going to a tough place against a very good side but if we perform to our maximum, we might catch Rangers on a bad day. That’s what we’ve got to do, go there with hope and belief we can’t go there thinking, it’s a free hit for us and then on the back of that we come away with a defeat that can hurt. So, I expect the boys to go to Rangers and put a performance on”.
