Match Preview v Kelty Hearts (H) - 10th Jan 2023

We have a break from the league tomorrow as we host Kelty Hearts in the quarter finals of the SPFL Trust Trophy.

The visitors have claimed victory in our two league meetings so far this season. Michael Tidser scored the only goal of the game in October, while at Palmerston in November, they left it late but two goals in the space of four minutes (80 & 84 minutes) from Nathan Austin and Kallum Higginbotham cancelled out Ruari Paton’s opener as Kelty came from behind to win 2-1.

Following his appointment at the weekend, new manager, Marvin Bartley will observe the game from the stand with Grant Murray in the dug-out. Looking ahead to the match Grant said “Saturday was a very disappointing game for us, as again we had ourselves in front but ended up losing.

Individual errors have proved costly throughout the season so we need to learn and eradicate the mistakes so we can see out games. Although the mistakes are individual errors, we need to defend as a team. We also need to be more ruthless at both ends of the park. We had hoped that we would be going into the cup tie against Kelty on the back of two victories, but it wasn’t to be.

Like Saturday, we threw away a lead against Kelty the last time at Palmerston. It was a game we felt that we shouldn’t have lost, and we didn’t perform against them in our first game either, so we have a point or two to prove. We know it won’t be easy, but we have a good record in this competition, and we want to progress and go as far as we possibly can”.

We would like to remind supporters that letting off smoke devices is a criminal offence, and anyone found doing so will be referred to Police Scotland which may result in a custodial sentence. Not only is it against the law, but it is also extremely dangerous and a health hazard to other spectators. All bags will be searched and spectators presenting themselves for entry may also be subject to search. Spectators who refuse to be searched by stewards will be denied entry to the ground.

Palmerston Park is a non-smoking venue, this includes e cigarettes and other such devices. Stewards are empowered to eject spectators who disobey these rules. No persons will be admitted to the ground who are deemed to be under the influence of alcohol.
