Match Preview v Cove Rangers 260823

For the second weekend in a row, we will be involved in a historical match. After facing Annan Athletic in the league for the first-time last Saturday, tomorrow we take on Cove Rangers again in a first ever league meeting between the two sides.

We have played each other on four previous occasions, in a cup tie at Palmerston in 1989 and three times in cup competitions, two seasons ago. That season, Rory McAllister scored an injury time equaliser to make it 2-2 in the Scottish Cup with Fraser Fyvie and Mitch Megginson’s double giving Cove a 3-0 win in the replay at Palmerston.

We then travelled to Aberdeen in the March for an SPFL Trust Trophy semi-final tie when Aidan Fitzpatrick scored the only goal of the game to see us through to the final.

Both sides go into the game on the back of wins, Cove were 3-0 winners away at Montrose while we recorded a 3-1 victory over Annan. However, we sit two points better off in the table after three games.

Manager Marvin Bartley said “I expect a tough game against Cove, they’re a team who have come down, a team who have spent a little bit of money bringing players to the club and it’s an away game against a full-time club.

They have started well but this is a game we are prepared for, as always, we have a game plan so it’s about going there and executing it to the best of our ability. We’re also a good team, so we will go there and try to exploit their weakness and nullify their strengths.”
