We have a break from the league this weekend as we travel to Glasgow to take on Championship side Partick Thistle in the SPFL Trust Trophy.
It’s not been too long since the two sides faced each other in competitive matches, with both teams in the Championship until recently. In season 21/22 we faced each other five times, with four league games and once in this very competition.
Thistle hold the upper hand in the league with three wins (3-2, 1-0, 1-0) and a draw (0-0), while we were victorious in the cup (2-0) thanks to goals from Lee Connelly and Ally Roy. In our last visit to Firhill in April 2022, Kevin Holt scored the only goal of the game from the penalty spot.
The hosts have made a decent start to their league campaign, sitting fourth in the table on seven points from their opening four games, three points behind leaders Dundee United. They go into this game on the back of a 4-1 victory over Morton.
Queens boss Marvin Bartley said “At home to Montrose last week was frustrating to say the least, we did not perform to the levels that we have been and were punished for it. I said prior to the game we would need to be at 100% but we fell well short of that, especially in the first half. It was better after the break, but we had given ourselves too much to do.
This week we face Partick, they’re a very strong side who just missed out on promotion last season but for us, it’s all about what we do, we have to take care of our own business and I will be looking to get back to our best and be on it from the start”.
