Match Preview v Hamilton (H) - 23rd Sept 23

Sep 22 2023 11:37

Former Queens Captain John Rankin brings his Hamilton Accies side to Dumfries tomorrow as we return to Palmerston for our league one fixture.

Relegated last season, Accies have made a great start to the campaign. In their bid to return to the Championship, they remain unbeaten and sit joint top of the table, second to Falkirk only on goal difference with 16 points from their opening matches.

With Craig McGuffie and Reeghan Mimnaugh now, side lined for a period of time and Jack Brydon, Kyle Doherty, and Daniel Church still to return from their lengthy time out, it’s not the best time to be facing an in-form team, but it is a chance for the others in the squad to stake their claim.

Although we were in different divisions last season, we played the visitors twice, once in a pre-season friendly and in the semi-final of the SPFL Trust Trophy. That tie in February this year at New Douglas Park saw Ross Irving cancel out Dario Zanatta’s first half opener before Ryan One scored six minutes into extra time to see Accies through to the final 2-1 on the night.

Ahead of the game tomorrow, Manager Mavin Bartley said “The defeat away at Falkirk hurt us all. We were gutted to lose it with such a late goal after the shift the boys had put in. They deserved to take something from the game.

The effort and endeavour that they have shown in the last two games against very strong opposition is the level that we are looking for, we must at least maintain that in every game, if they do that it will make it easier to achieve exactly what we’ve set out to do.

Tomorrow we welcome another team who have made a terrific start to the season but it is up to ourselves to go out and continue what we have been doing, work hard and control the controllable’s.”

Car parking will be available to all spectators within the Queen of the South Arena car park. It is suggested that buses/minibuses drop off their passengers in Terregles St/King Street and thereafter park on College Mains road just off the roundabout with the A76 on the town bypass (adjacent to Curry’s/PC World, as the other side at Aldi is the access road to the ambulance depot and is extremely busy). Pick up should be the same location as drop off. Supporters’ buses including minibuses will not be allowed to park in the Arena car park.

People travelling should check Traffic Scotland website at http://trafficscotland.org/index.aspx for confirmation of any delays.

The catering outlets within the supporter’s areas of the ground will also be open for use. And the bar under the Alpha Solway stand will be open to both sets of supporters’ pre-match. The Snaq café within the Arena is also open and will have a range of food/snacks on offer ahead of kick off.

For safety reasons, QOS have adopted a robust and thorough search policy for spectators entering the ground to ensure that ground rules and regulations are strictly adhered to, especially in relation to pyrotechnic devices and controlled containers. We would like to remind supporters that letting off smoke devices is a criminal offence, and anyone found doing so will be referred to Police Scotland which may result in a custodial sentence. Not only is it against the law, but it is also extremely dangerous and a health hazard to other spectators. All bags will be searched and spectators presenting themselves for entry may also be subject to search. Spectators who refuse to be searched by stewards will be denied entry to the ground.

Palmerston Park is a non-smoking venue; this includes e cigarettes and other such devices. Stewards are empowered to eject spectators who disobey these rules. No persons will be admitted to the ground who are deemed to be under the influence of alcohol.

The club shop located in the Arena will be open until kick off where you can purchase our club merchandise. Including half-time draw tickets and match day programmes.

Tomorrow’s match kicks off at 3 pm.
