Match Preview v Montrose - 12th April

Apr 11 2025 12:17

It’s back to Palmerston tomorrow for our penultimate home game of the scheduled league fixtures. After victories over Inverness and Annan we play host to Montrose as we look to make it three wins from three. The visitors currently sit sixth in the table, six points behind ourselves, so we go into the game knowing that a victory would make it hard for them to catch us and all but end their chances of the play-offs.

We hold the upper hand when it comes to results so far this season, Montrose won the first game in August when Craig Brown scored the only goal of the game at Links Park. But we were three-nil winners the last time we played each other when Adam Brooks and Fraser Bryden both scored from the penalty spot either side of Harry Cochrane’s strike. And in the one game at Palmerston, Pharrell Willis scored in a 1-0 win.

Ahead of the game tomorrow, Manager Peter Murphy said “The way we have managed the latter parts of the last two games has been very pleasing. The second half of our last home game against Inverness was really satisfying and resulted in three points against one of the best teams in the division. And last week against Annan, although they did well in the first half of the derby, we controlled the game after the break.

Those two results have given us what looks like an opportunity to extend the season. We have four difficult games left but it is very much in our own hands.

Tomorrow we face Montrose, Stewart Petrie and his side have come through a sticky patch and have pulled themselves back up the table in recent weeks and will want to keep alive their hopes of catching the teams above and closing the gap on us.

We will continue to take each game at a time, as there will be plenty of twists and turns yet but realistically, we know what we must do in these next four matches.”

We would like to remind supporters that letting off smoke devices is a criminal offence, and anyone found doing so will be referred to Police Scotland. Not only is it against the law, it is also extremely dangerous and a health hazard to other spectators.
